IN PRINT
There are many children’s books that are math related. In fact, any favourite story can be used to teach math if you look for the math in the story.  Local book stores also carry many activity books for students to get extra practice at home.  There are also several books on the market to help you help your student, such as “A Family’s Guide: Fostering Your Child’s Success in School Mathematics” by Amy J. Mirra. Just go in and have a look around we’re sure you’ll find some gems!

YOU!
You may not realise it, but you can be your child’s biggest math resource and help! You have many years of “doing” math under your belt, and there are many things that you can use to teach your child math. Just look for “teachable moments” and things that you can use to your advantage. Have your child pay for groceries, have them measure out cereal or other food items, bake with each other, count things as you walk or drive, compare sizes of everyday objects. You can make anything mathemagical if you just put your mind to it!
